I thought there's been a few times at least where a person actually won their election race while being dead, oddly enough.

This is one of my favorites! I feel like the entire album is made of really good, and unique tracks, but since you asked about this one in particular...

I feel nostalgic for something, not quite definable, that I never experienced. A mix of cozy and wistful.

If you enjoy that song, make sure you give the whole album a go. Also wanna plug an alternate take (take 2, very rough), because it's an interesting listen if you're familiar with the original recording.

    https://youtu.be/y5g_DiZF5NI?feature=shared

The final version (that made it to the album) is actually a speed-adjusted splice between take 7 and take 26.

Dick Cheney. It's in the original post.

As an aside about him, Vice was a phenomenal movie. Not sure how much was dramatized, but it was a pretty good look at him.

If it pays your bills and leaves something left over, I'd say go for it. But definitely treat this (and basically every job, probably) as a stepping stone to put in your resume while you either save money or look for something better.

Not saying it is. But having an accessible/fun way to get a jump start into something that appeals to you is kinda nice.

Because "just read theory" is awful. I've been reading some today. And it is... Not written to be engaging to a modern audience.

  • I stumbled onto LeftValues and took the quiz. Turns out that my political leanings aren't what I thought they were. Like, not even close. Just to preface, apparently I fall somewhere between Democratic Socialism and Centrist Marxism, with some leanings towards Social Democracy. 0% in common with Marxism-Leninism, which isn't going to be very popular in this community, but it's likely because of my feelings on centralization. So, with all that in mind, does anyone have any recommended reading? * https://leftvalues.github.io * Democratic Socialism is a form of socialism that seeks to utilize liberal democracy as a means to achieve a socialist economy and society. Democratic Socialists reject revolution and a centrally planned economy, instead supporting moderate social ownership in the form of publicly owned utilities and democratic workplace self-management. * Centrist Marxism is a form of Marxism that adopts Marxist views on society and the economy while also refraining from taking a definitive position on revolution and reformism. Many Centrist Marxists may also be more nationalistic than other Marxists. * Social Democracy is a centre-left ideology that advocates for mixing left-leaning values such as social welfare and corporate regulation with capitalism and liberal democracy in the form of a mixed economy. Many modern Social Democrats favor Keynesian economics. * Marxism-Leninism is a form of Marxism that was forged in the 20th century in the Soviet Union. Marxist-Leninists heavily favor the use of a communist political party as the platform for both achieving revolution and establishing socialism. Many Marxist-Leninists are somewhat more nationalistic and patriotic than many other Marxists, and may favor industrial progress over environmental goals.

Absolutely. I thought I was mildly liberal. And then I found out that liberalism was just feudalism wearing a capitalism hat.

I thought I was a liberal, but it turns out I didn't know what words even mean, apparently. Because it's not what I thought it was! This post made me Google things.

Probably not a popular take in this community, but apparently I fall in somewhere between Democratic Socialism and Centrist Marxism, with a sprinkle of Social Democracy thrown in. Big props to LeftValues for giving me a start on that. Marxism-Leninism score of 0%, though, so that's odd to me. I thought there works be at least some shared values, but my fondness for decentralization means probably not. Seems like there's a lot to learn. At the very least, it seems like everyone wants things to get better.

I mean, obviously. As a single person, definitely. But issues require groups, groups require compromise, and that's the political system. The whole thing is set up to encourage factionalism. And factions get boiled down to their simplest parts.

I feel like I just wrote in a big circle. Anyways, yeah, I agree. Lol.

Gonna have to go with losing my job and enlisting. Absolutely spiralled after basic training and AIT. The perspective from being a part of the American machine did not do a lot to make me more patriotic lol. A lot of dudes I was in with drank the Kool aid and went the other direction, though. I don't think anyone leaves the military as a centrist.

Also totally valid. We need a political hypercube or something. It's a complex thing, with a lot of gadgets and variables. Just human nature to try and simplify it I guess.

It's been memed to death at this point, but this is one reason I like the political compass. It's got width and height, and does a little bit of a better job at representing things.

An important question for everyone: When watching a foreign anime, is it preferable to watch it in Sub or Dub?

I usually watch the dub when I'm watching with my wife because she likes to crochet and craft while doing stuff, but I prefer the sub when watching just me.

The quality of dubbed anime has gotten way better over the last decade since there's an established market for it now. So if it's a newer dub (2000s+) I'd go for the dub. Anything older than that, go for a sub.

Solid take. Change happens from the bottom up, a little at a time. It's a bummer that nothing big usually happens in one lifetime. I guess it's easier to see the steps when looking through the lens of history, and frustrating when you're actually living it.

Meant to reply earlier, but it was a hell of a week. I did manage to pick up the cigar you mentioned (on mobile, not gonna try and spell it and totally butcher the spelling), as well as another similar cigar recommended by the clerk in charge of the humidor.

Was definitely enjoyable! Didn't go so great with bourbon, but I liked them both! Oddly enough, the second one went with some pink lemonade, and the sour contrast kinda added to the whole experience.

Anyways, that's my layman's casual take on dipping my feet into real cigars. Thank you for the recommendation!
