Whatcha all been playing? I've been pushing myself through silent hill 2 remake. Not because it's bad but because it's so damn scary to me 😭. I live for horror games but this game fills me with so much dread nearly every second. I have a few nitpicks with decisions they made, but now that I'm on the final area I think they really did do as good a job as you can with this remake. It's really damn solid

I'm trying to identify what special edition this Xbox controller is but I'm struggling to find any info online that matches it. It is grey and red with metallic red d-pad and triggers and has "you died" printed in the centre at the bottom. Initially that made me think it was some kind of dark souls related edition but searching those words just brings me up endless threads of people having issues with using a controller and the game. I've scrolled through lists and lists of pictures of special editions and can't seem to find the right one, so does anyone have any insight into what this may be? Maybe it is one someone has had made for themselves as I found it in a charity shop but it seems too good quality to be custom work and is definitely an official controller. Any help appreciated!

This looks *amazing*! We cannot wait to be terrified and exploring the depths, possibly in multiplayer this time (if the trailer is anything to go by).

Tbh every time this project was mentioned I assumed it was a PVP thing. I'm WAY more interested knowing it's a co-op thing!

https://thingsiplay.game.blog/2024/10/19/showcase-for-retroarch-shaders-2024/ I finally managed to write another blog post. Screenshots made with Shaders on RetroArch and crops are compared. Shaders are those effects to recreate CRT look or other special effects. RetroArch is the emulator suite I use on PC. Its several pages long and compares images in various resolutions as well. Maybe you can find your favorite Shader this way. Or you get introduced to the topic. Hope it helps. Have a great rest of your day. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbeehaw.org%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fed9d162e-cd62-460d-8ff3-6801685e65a3.webp) ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbeehaw.org%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F745cebce-8177-47a8-9a0d-b8b6a686a98d.webp)

I played this while I was growing up on the PS2, and being a huge fan of the film, I had an absolute blast every time I rented it. The video rightfully points out how damned clunky it was, but I really appreciated how different it was from most other games I'd played up to that point.

Quite a good list, although without any real surprises, except for the cheeky inclusion of a recent fan-made PC port. I'm glad Kerbal Space Program is on it, but a few other personal favorites (and candidates for best game of all time) are absent, like The Talos Principle, BeamNG.drive, NEO Scavenger, World of Goo, Mafia, Machinarium and Gothic II. Jets'n'Guns - a very early Indie masterpiece of a 2D space shooter - as well, but it's a bit too obscure for these kinds of lists. I'll stop here before I accidentally create my own top 100. Are your favorite PC games well-represented by this list?

TL:DW Steam has now changed its language from buy game to A purchase of a digital product grants a licence to the product on steam. This may also be non compliant with the new regulation as it still uses the word purchase. Also GOG used this opportunity to let you know their games come with an installer that they cannot take away from you.

Hey! I found out that Steam announces their next sales almost a year in advance. After discovering this, I started looking for a service that allows me to see the next steam sales right in my calendar. However, I couldn't find anything, so I quickly spun up a solution of my own. It's basically just a Rust project that generates a '.ics' file from the latest information (manually entered, as I couldn't find an API for this). The repository also hosts a workflow that automatically builds the file after an update. You can add this to your own calendar using the following URL: [steam_sales.ics](https://github.com/silvasch/steam_sales_calendar/releases/latest/download/steam_sales.ics). Hope someone finds this useful.

As the title suggests: I've had it with open worlds with dozens of things to do and checklists to complete. What are your favorite, delightfully simple, linear games? This question is sparked by the discussion in the Final Fantasy thread, were I disclosed that I actually kind of like XIII *because* of its linearity. Other linear favorites of mine include: Half-Life series, Portal series, Uncharted series, some COD campaigns, Undertale, Journey, Super Mario 3D World, Plague Tale, Spec Ops: The Line A shout out to A Way Out in the co-op catergory!

Don't want to do spam! but we are a small studio and we are trying to get a bit of attention to our next game, its an inventory management auto battler set in a world of sci fi parodies of big franchises, so if anyone wants to give it a try it will be really appreciated. Thank you guys! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2994150/Konfronto/ We have just been working on the game for the last five-six months after our last game was cancelled so it can be a bit rough around the edges but we think its a fair bit of fun so hopefully you can enjoy it too

With Google's assault on Invidious leaving it inoperable, consider watching this video [with FreeTube](https://freetubeapp.io/), a nifty [open source](https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube?tab=readme-ov-file) program that lets you watch youtube videos privately! Combined with [Libredirect](https://libredirect.github.io/index.html), which automatically opens youtube links in Freetube, it becomes really slick and effortless to use.

Hi Lemmy! My partner and I are moving from the US to the EU soon. We both have gaming PCs but they're a bit older, so we're thinking it's a great time to sell them, taking the SSDs, and buying new components there to avoid shipping them. Any suggestions surrounding it? Maybe there's a good way to pay a little and backup the whole SSDs to the cloud? I know it's not strictly gaming related but it sorta is? Sorry if this is inappropriate for the community

A new report says Unity is cutting around 1,800 jobs, or about 25 percent of the its employees, according to a regulatory filing and internal company memo obtained by Reuters on Monday. This is reportedly the largest round of layoffs in the software company’s history—far larger than what happened in November of last year—and it will be completed by the end of March. Unity has gone through three prior rounds of layoffs within the last 12 months. “We are … reducing the number of things we are doing in order to focus on our core business and drive our long-term success and profitability,” interim CEO Jim Whitehurst wrote in an internal memo obtained by Reuters. The memo was sent to all Unity employees on January 8.

[archive.is link](https://archive.ph/uyPY9) > When Mats Steen died from a muscle-wasting disorder, his parents believed that his life had been a tragically lonely one — until hundreds of emails from strangers arrived. It turns out that he’d found friendship and even romance in a gaming community --- > Their son had lived by another name. To his family he had simply been Mats. But within World of Warcraft he had existed for years as a charismatic adventurer named “Ibelin”, a strapping swashbuckler with auburn hair tied back in a ponytail and a butch goatee beard. And it was as this digital alter ego that Mats had thrived in a way his family had never appreciated. They had misunderstood what World of Warcraft really was. It had seemed to them like a frenetic action game of monster-bashing and point-scoring. To Mats and the many people he played with – the people now emailing Robert and Trude – it was something far more profound: an immersive world built on social interactions, friendships and shared storytelling. Robert smiles. “This window started to open up to us that let us see he had another life besides his physical life. And that it had been so rich, so big and so full of contentment.”
