Der Artikel vermischt zwei Dinge: Zugangskontrolle zum Gleis mit vielleicht einem inneren Bereich um die Gleise herum und Zugang zum Bahnhofsgebäude samt Vorplatz.

Ersteres dient vor allem der Ticketkontrolle und schafft eventuell etwas Ruhe und Sicherheit, weil eben nicht jeder durchlaufen kann. Letzteres geht eher in Richtung Flughafen / Gated Community, ein großer quasi-öffentlicher Bereich, den man weder anonym noch ohne Grund nutzen darf.

Es fehlt nicht an Distros, es gibt eher zu viele. Vielleicht fehlt es an einem good-enough Standard, auf den sich alle einigen: deb, flatpak, und bestimmte Feature müssen out-of-the-box funktionieren.
