Same with mine. She's the reason I love Rammstein. We share music with each other a lot, it's awesome. My dads more old fashioned and likes classic rock but he'll tolerate me and my brother playing our favourite metal songs for him at least!

Tbh the bigger instances need to bite the bullet and defederate from .ml. There are alternatives to all the good comms on .ml, they just aren't as active. Defederating would move a lot of users onto the alternatives and get some control back from the terrible .ml mods and admins.

Banning people from multiple completely unrelated comms for something that happened in one comm is bullshit and they abuse the hell out of that. I generally try not to participate in any .ml comm because of that.

How do K type stars compare to M type stars in regards to flare activity? I've read that M dwarfs are particularly grumpy stars with strong and frequent flares, which when combined with the very close habitatable zone, is thought to strip away the atmosphere of planets. Are K type stars more like G (sun-like) type stars or M type stars in that regard?

Eh even with being allowed to do things, it still sucks after a while. My job is seasonal with half the year being insanely busy and other half has practically nothing to do after work dries up. Luckily the bosses are chill about it, just show up and "pretend" to be busy and you can watch TV on your phone while "cleaning" the same tools or trays etc over and over. It's nice for a few weeks after the demanding busy season ends, but even with being allowed to listen to music or watch stuff on your phone, take extra breaks, chat with people as much as you want, it still gets old having to be at work 40 hours a week with nothing truly productive to do.

That's with good bosses that want to keep the workers happy, doing tedious mind numbing work for bosses that are trying to get you to quit sounds like hell. No thank you.

  • Sharing Plex data between seperate installations?
  • AmosBurton_ThatGuy AmosBurton_ThatGuy 1w ago 100%

I know how to use all my OS' to access my media library, I have a 12TB HDD that contains all my TV shows and movies, I just want to be able to carry over my watch history on Plex. I'd switch to Jellyfin, but AFAIK they don't have an app for Xbox which both my brother and mom use to access my library, that's why I'm stuck on Plex.

I've heard about running Plex media server in docker, how do I go about doing that and keeping my current data and watch history? I'm sorry, I'm still fairly new to Linux despite using it for 5 months so I'd appreciate any help!

In a perfect world I would have a seperate PC to run Plex media server, but I can't afford a 2nd PC to act as a server so I'm stuck using my main desktop as my media server. I just want to be able to keep my watch history between different installations of Linux.

Thanks for the help though! Much appreciated!

  • Hey guys, I switched to Bazzite about 5 months ago, but I currently have two seperate 2TB SSDs, one has Bazzite and the other still has my old Windows 11 install. I recently bought a 1TB SSD so that I can migrate Windows to the 1TB SSD and have two Linux distros installed at the same time on my two 2TB SSDs. I'm going to use BTRFS for both installations so I don't think I should have any problems accessing files between the seperate installations. I'm gonna keep one of the SSDs for Bazzite, and on the other I want to install CachyOS. I'm almost ready to wipe my old Windows 11 install off my 2TB SSD, I've made a fresh (debloated) Windows install on my 1TB SSD and copied over the stuff I care about keeping, so I'll soon be able to put a Linux distro on my 2TB SSD that's about to freed up. One of my main concerns is being able to share Plex watch history/data between the 2 seperate distros, I currently run Plex media server in a Debian distrobox and I'd like to have both my Linux installations to share the same Plex data so I don't have seperate watch history etc when I switch between distros. How do I go about having 2 distros share the same Plex data? I've tried searching but I can't quite find the right answer as to where my Plex media server data is while installed through distrobox. I'm open to migrating my Plex media server data to something else if that's the optimal way to go, but I'd prefer being able to just install a Debian distrobox instance on CachyOS, and then sharing that same data with my current Bazzite Debian distrobox instance so that no matter which OS I'm booted into, I have my watch history being updated and shared between the 2 OS'. TLDR, how to I access Plex through two seperate Linux installations while keeping my watch history? I want to be able to boot into either CachyOS or Bazzite and have them both share the same Plex history and data. I currently run Plex media server through a Debian distrobox install on Bazzite and I want CachyOS to share the same Plex data. Thanks in advance for anyone that can help! Edit: Where is my Plex data when it's installed through a Debian distrobox anyways? I've searched but I can't find the right answer. Where and how would I even point a new Debian distrobox install to my current Plex data? Edit 2: I have a 12TB HDD that contains all my TV shows and movies, and I know how to access it through all my different OS' but I want to keep the same watch history across two seperate Linux insallations. My current Plex media server installaion is running in a Debian distrobox in Bazzite, and I want to share that same data with a new installation of CachyOS or any other Linux distro that I choose to install. How do I do that?

  • AmosBurton_ThatGuy AmosBurton_ThatGuy 4w ago 80%

I agree completely. I don't want anyone let alone young people getting addicted to nicotine, but a straight up ban isn't gonna stop it. When I was a teen it was easy for me to get someone else to buy me smokes or booze or weed, just needed to pay a runners fee which was perfectly fine to me back then. Kids are dumb (so was I, no shade) they're gonna do what makes them look cool and helps them to fit in with their peers.

Idk what the answer is tbh, but straight up bans aren't it. That's just pushing it to the black market and taking away taxes.

Unpopular opinion on lemmy but why not? Kids are gonna get their hands on nicotine no matter how hard it's regulated, same with booze and weed and cigarettes. Banning flavored juices just pisses off a lot of older vapers like me that have been vaping for years. I originally started to quit cigarettes, which I smoked for 6 years, and now 8 on the vape.

If I wanna poison my lungs, what business is that of anyone else's? Don't try and give me that bullshit about "think of the children" either, they're gonna get their hands on nicotine regardless whether that be through vaping or smoking. Vapes are the lesser evil, my lungs don't feel nearly as shitty as they did when I was smoking cigarettes. Anecdotal obviously and there aren't any long term studies on the effects of vaping (as far as I know at least) but I don't lose my breath walking up a small flight of stairs the way I did when I was smoking a lot.

You ban flavours and you're just pushing that to the black market. Sure I could just quit but that's insanely fucking hard and I've tried multiple times, and quite frankly I just don't want to at this point. My life sucks enough, let me have my fruity vapour for fuck sakes and quit trying to ban shit, the alcohol prohibition didn't work, keeping weed illegal didn't stop people from getting it, you're just taking a highly taxable product off the market. I don't wanna smoke nasty ass cigarettes, I like my peach flavoured vape juice.

I know lemmy has basically zero sympathy for nicotine addicts so I'm sure this will be heavily down voted but I just wanted to voice my opinion. Fuck off and let me live my life how I want to live it. Lung cancer or liver failure is basically my retirement plan since I'm otherwise gonna work until I drop dead anyways.

Edit: But I fully support banning disposable vapes. They're a huge waste and banning them would raise the barrier of entry for people that want to vape. I have to change my cotton every few days and change my coils every month or so, and it's fairly easy to mess up. Even premade coils with cotton already in them are a barrier to entry, I know a 30 year old dude that went back to smokes cause he's too lazy to buy new coils and change them when they start tasting bad.

Fuck disposable vapes. Adds a ton of unnecessary waste.

  • Hey guys, I currently have two separate 2TB SSD's, one still has my old Windows 11 install and the other has Bazzite. I bought a 1TB SSD so that I can move my Windows install to that for the few things I still need Windows for, so I want to install CachyOS on what will eventually be an empty 2TB SSD. First off, what's a good way to clone my current Windows install to my new 1TB SSD? I'd prefer to avoid re-installing just because that's a pain in the ass, but I'll do that if necessary. Second, what's the best practice for managing two separate /home folders? I know I can just point Steam to my Bazzite /home directory to get my games to show up in another install (I think?) but are there any problems that may arise due to having two distros installed across two different SSD's? As far as I know, Bazzite already uses BTRFS which is also what I want to use in CachyOS so that I can create snapshots in case I break something, so the file systems should be compatible with each other. Thanks!

Personally, I find Brown Dwarfs to be absolutely fascinating. An object that isn't quite a planet and isn't quite a star, but something in between. What would one even look like? Would it look like a gas giant that's glowing red, along with swirls of gas in its atmosphere like Jupiter? Or would it resemble a star and have a fiery surface like the sun? I prefer to imagine them as glowing gas giants but I don't know how realistic that is. Gas giants in general are fascinating to me as well, I *really* hope we send a probe into one of the gas giants with a camera before I die. I'd absolutely *love* to see what it looks like inside a gas giants atmosphere before the probe gets crushed by the increasing pressure as it descends.

Hey guys, so I installed Bazzite on my 2nd SSD last weekend and I've installed some games and searched through the OS to familiarize myself with it, but I still have a few questions about Bazzite and Linux in general that I'd like some help with! I've used Ubuntu and Linux mint in the past (2014ish) just to mess around with but never fully switched. I'm having no problems with gaming, all the games I've tested work fine and I have the latest Proton GE installed already. I consider myself to be quite computer-savvy and tech-savvy in general, but Linux is making me question just how good I am with computers 😅 But it's honestly a lot of fun to be new to an OS and having to learn things again, feels like being a kid again and exploring everything about my old Windows 98 pc. I'm still using Windows 11 on my primary drive, but the goal is to eventually get comfortable enough to completely switch away from Windows since I don't have any games that require it. My first question is, how do I install programs from outside the "discover store"? I can get the Plex app through the built in app store, but the Plex media server app isn't on there so I have to download it from the website, which gives me a .rpm file. I'm probably being dumb, but double clicking it just brings up an error message in the discover store saying it couldn't open the file. I think I'm supposed to use the boxbuddy app to install it? I'm not sure. I'm not scared of using the terminal if I have to, and I'd actually like to get more comfortable with that anyways. Switching to Jellyfin isn't an option because my mom and brother use Plex through an xbox so I'm sticking with Plex for now. Also, outside of the built in discover store, what's the best way to install programs? I know that Bazzite is built off of Fedora Atomic which is an "immuteable" distro so I can't directly install apps to the system without using rpm-ostree and that's apparently not recommended unless absolutely necessary according to what I've read. I have a Logitech G502x plus mouse but piper won't recognize it, solaar works fine though. I can still configure my mouse in Windows when needed but I'd like to be able to do it in Linux as well, any ideas why piper won't recognize my mouse? I also have a Razer blackwidow v3 and I'm not sure what software to use to configure it in Linux. Another small but annoying issue I'm having is with Firefox granting the RES (reddit enhancement suite) extension permissions, when I try to use it to expand a v.reddit link for example, it pops up a window asking me to "request permissions" but when I click that it simply brings me to [this link](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/permission-request-messages-firefox-extensions?as=u&utm_source=inproduct) without actually giving me the option to grant the permissions. On Windows I get a little popup near the extensions in the top right corner and I can simply grant the required permissions, but it's not doing that for me in Bazzite. What are some cool programs in general to check out? My main use case is gaming, I don't program or do any work on my PC but I'd like to explore just for the sake of exploring! Also, what's a good way to familiarize myself with using the terminal? I've used the terminal on Windows quite a bit in the past, but only for basic things like unlocking a bootloader on Android and sending a ROM to it, back when I cared enough to root my phones. How would I, for example, pull a program off of github and compile it myself if needed? There's a program on github called gHub GUI by ysph that I'd like to check out, would be nice to be able to configure my mouse since piper doesn't seem to recognize my mouse. What are some general best practices that differ from Windows? I don't really know how to narrow this question down, apologies for it being so vague. Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer me some advice!

After 57 hours, I finally have everything for blue science in Bobs&Angels!
    imgur.com

So after struggling through 57 hours of Bobs&Angels for the first time, I've *finally* got everything I need to get blue science up and running. Base has been mostly idle for the last 15 hours while I slowly spaghetti'd my way up this point. I've been aiming for only 30 SPM so far cause I knew it'd be slow going since it's my first time playing the mod and that turned out to be very true. Must've spent a good 5 hours minimum between recipe book and factory planner so far! Next on the list once blue science is going is to start transitioning to a city block train base. My mall is nice and stocked up and once I have bots the process of phasing out the starter base will begin. Got some homemade block BPs that are 150x150 tiles big and with 1-2 or smaller trains my blocks can support up to 12 stations if I need it. I have space extension installed so I'm eventually going to need high SPM at the endgame which should be a fun challenge to build for. Really not looking forward to making modules, those things look like a giant pain in the ass to make but I'll have to get em going sooner rather than later. Any suggestions or tips for getting modules up? Having a ton of fun with the mod pack in general though, I've played K2 5 times, K2SE twice (burning out around 200 hours in on both tries) and this modpack is turning out to be awesome. My favorite parts of K2SE were the more complicated recipes you started running into once you got to space and started setting up mining outposts, but the complexity of Bobs&Angels has a much steeper learning curve to it. So far it's my favorite part of the mod, it's extremely satisfying to make progress in this mod IMO.
