Lemmy.ca Support / Questions
Hi Everyone! We've setup a shared account to simplify the process of contacting an admin. Rather than messaging several of us, you can now contact [@admin@lemmy.ca](https://lemmy.ca/u/admin) and we'll all be notified. A link to this user is also available in our main sidebar on the home page.
Am I the only one that gets this? I tried uploading a video but can't seem to regardless of file size. Toggling between sections makes no difference. Also unrelated but having so many different sections of lemmy makes it difficult to know where to post. I just found out posting this that I need to be subscribed to the lemmy.ca support / questions in order to post here.
This number is getting pretty big. What is this, like, XP or something? Can I level up? Is it bad? Does anything happen if it gets too big?
Anyone else getting logged out periodically in the web UI? I've tried tossing my browser's cookies and site data, without any effect. I'll stay logged in for a bit, then will get asked to log in again.
I was trying to create a community with id=til_about_computer_science name=TIL about Computer Science However, everytime I click "Create", there was no response. The console log says POST https://lemmy.ca/api/v3/community Status 400 VersionHTTP/3 Transferred820 B (28 B size) Referrer Policysame-origin Request PriorityHighest DNS ResolutionDNS over HTTPS Response rate_limit_error Do I just need to wait for a while? Besides, there was no UI on the webpage telling me what was wrong
I'm pretty sure I used to get emails when I received a notification, but that hasn't been happening for a while now. I do have the "Send Notifications to Email" checked in my settings and I have verified that my email address is set correctly. Are email notifications working for others? Can anyone suggest things I should change to get them working?
Hello, not sure if this is specific to Lemmy.ca, my account, me, or something else, but I'm posting anyway. The following is happening on my laptop (LMDE6) using Firefox (128.0/64) while logged into Lemmy.ca. - Clicking next while logged into Lemmy.ca on either Local or All view times out after the first page (screenies below). - When on Subscribed view the next button works and new pages load. - If logged out, the next button in Local and All views work to load a new page. - Clearing browser and session data, and using a container tab hasn't made a difference. - Tried above on two other computers: another LMDE6 with firefox, and a Windows 10 with Chrome (latest) with the same results. - The problem doesn't happen on two other lemmy 0.95 instances that I have accounts on (lemmy.dbzer0.com, and literature.cafe) in the same browser, using the same Lemmy settings (default, but dark mode) apart from my subscriptions and blocks. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ca%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F2c0c2f33-c832-4935-bf8b-06d7c62d2935.png) - click next ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ca%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fef8fe919-49bd-4216-b445-ab332ca6069d.png) - it sits here thinking for a while ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ca%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F7b2c1570-3133-4bb7-a27f-9f7a7090cdda.png) - then times out.
Is the image proxy broken? Posted this image: https://media3.giphy.com/media/IALvmllYJJD1AhPFrs/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952jiyrc08mier5pma36v56jao6q185y18tlb6qzv4y&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g In this post: https://lemmy.ca/post/25242756/10442736 I get a small box saying "Print pretty" from the comment link in Connect, gif wont load in the comment itself. When I open the link externally in Firefox I get: - url: https://lemmy.ca/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https://media3.giphy.com/media/IALvmllYJJD1AhPFrs/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952jiyrc08mier5pma36v56jao6q185y18tlb6qzv4y&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g - window: {"error":"unknown","message":"Record not found"} Is anyone else experiencing this? Or am I doing something wrong? Thank you!
Mlmym has updated again and fixed some compatibility issues with the latest Lemmy version. It would be great if old.lemmy.ca would update
Why am I seeing a post about Microsoft from 9 days ago pinned as an announcement at the top of /all ?
Not a high priority because I can still do what I need to. Might be related to the latest upgrade. 1. When I go to [reports](https://lemmy.ca/reports) in a /c that I mod, "Unread" gives me an unending wait, hourglass, spinny thing that doesn't time out. "All" seems to work fine so I'm not stuck. 2. When I click on a user's name I get an error page: > Error 1033 Ray ID: 8935e13f1e7c6064 • 2024-06-13 23:32:26 UTC Argo Tunnel error > > What happened? > You've requested a page on a website (lemmy.ca) that is on the Cloudflare network. The host (lemmy.ca) is configured as an Argo Tunnel, and Cloudflare is currently unable to resolve it. Edit: 3. I haven't been able to cross-post since the upgrade - the page comes up like it's ready to cross-post, but if I touch anything like "Select community" for example, all the fields clear and I'm left with an empty "Create a post" page.
I've noticed recently that as I'm paging through lemmy in firefox if a video is posted it will start auto-playing with the volume maxed. I don't mind it autoplaying before I get there but it's very annoying to have a page load and suddenly getting blasted with unexpected sound. an example post that does this: https://lemmy.ca/post/22495123
Hello, Sorry, I should've posted this here instead of the main community. I noticed that I cannot see some posts or comments from this account on this instance. Some of which are my own posts/comments. These are not posts/comments that have been removed nor does it have to do with bans or blocks. My own posts/comments for which I receive replies, I will see them in the “messages” section and will be able to access them from there. The posts in communities will be displayed, but comments will show as unable to view If I log in using an account form another instance, like sh.itjust.works for example. I can see all the missing posts and comments normally. Here’s an example of a post that I made in the Montreal community. I doesn’t appear when using my lemmy.ca account, but will appear when using my sh.itjust.works account. Community: !montreal@lemmy.ca Post: [REV Saint-Denis | Une entrave dans une portion névralgique indigne les cyclistes](https://lemmy.ca/post/22023252) And I noticed I can't even see my own post in my own community !bieres_quebec@lemmy.ca Is there a problem with this instance?
I sent a feature request to https://github.com/rystaf/mlmym and it was added in one of the recent versions. Have been waiting a while to see if it would be updated automatically or by an admin, but it hasn't happened yet. So here is my request for it to be updated.
If you look at the communities tab and sort by new, more communities there have 0 posts than have more than 10 posts. It seems like people are just making communities for the sake of having something to control, without any interest of actually contributing. Often times the communities are opposing, so it's not as if the mod actually has knowledge or an interest in all 6 sides. Is there any discussion behind the scenes on a way to curb this. or is this not a concern at this time because lemmy is still small?
I'm the original mod and creator of this 'sub lemmy' https://lemmy.ca/c/leaf_nation. The other mod requested approval from Lemmy.ca admins to take over the account in the past. However, he hasn't been active for at least 3 months in this instance, and he/she even added a bot to the account. I'm applying to have him removed as mod and additionally the bot. I'm here to stay. Would you please consent to this? Thank-you.
I do not understand why my posts aren't showing up. Does 'admin' maybe have some idea? Thank-you and have a great weekend, everyone. Looks like rain through to the 1st of next week. (sigh)
A few hours ago I received a PM from someone and I replied. I clicked edit but chose not to change anything so I clicked save and my entire message was deleted! Fortunately the message wasn't very long so I didn't have to type much but still.
Hello lemmy.ca I did register in your instance, but I did type my email wrong. Is there any chance to be fixed? Because I want to have the same username.
Hi. Just looking at what lemmy.ca sends my server: From nginx log: ``` your.ip.address - - [20/Feb/2024:03:48:47 +0000] "POST /inbox HTTP/1.1" 200 0 "-" "Lemmy/0.19.3; +https://lemmy.ca" your.ip.address - - [20/Feb/2024:03:48:49 +0000] "POST /inbox HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "Lemmy/0.19.3; +https://lemmy.ca" your.ip.address - - [20/Feb/2024:03:48:57 +0000] "POST /inbox HTTP/1.1" 400 0 "-" "Lemmy/0.19.3; +https://lemmy.ca" ``` Dumping the JSONs reveals 3 duplicate files, all containing: ``` "id": "https://lemmy.ca/activities/create/0968bf93-ac05-4178-bf3f-28cdc65fc338" "actor": "https://lemmy.ca/u/HairyOldCoot" "object": { "id": "https://lemmy.ca/comment/7454502" "content": "That was an episode of Sliders." "published": "2024-02-20T03:48:45.810068Z" ``` These are 3 Creates, not 1 Create and 2 Updates or anything. I've chosen a comment 'cos that's public info, but it's the same for all other activity too (Votes, Deletes, etc). lemmy.ca isn't alone in this. endlesstalk.org sends everything twice [(info posted here)](https://endlesstalk.org/post/23521063), as does lemmy.sdf.org and mander.xyz, but lemmy.ca is the only one I've seen send stuff 3 times. Other instances (e.g. aussie.zone, feddit.nl, lemm.ee, lemmings.world, lemmy.world, programming.dev, reddthat.com, sh.itjust.works, slrpnk.net) don't, but there's nothing obvious like lemmy version numbers to indicate the difference. Whilst I'd prefer you didn't send me stuff 3 times, I'm mostly mentioning it because I doubt it's good for your own resources to send every activity by every lemmy.ca user out multiple times. Also, the OPs of my community are from Mastodon, so I imagine you're sending them the same message 3 times too ...
Got 'invalid login' when viewing my profile after the lemmy update, logged out, re-setup 2fa using a browser and now Jerboa crashes when pressing the 'login' button after entering my details. Disabled 2fa and still the same results. Consistently crashing in the same spot every time I try. Switched to Boost for this post.
It started yesterday. Immediately after posting, some account started commenting nonsense and the same images repeatedly, so I banned it. Today the same thing is happening, but it's a different account. Anyone else have this happen? ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ca%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fff01a378-4f04-4c16-8b10-86874876df4f.png) ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ca%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F47573190-5a30-4e66-b3a5-3257564f4bc7.png)

There is a federated instance that seems to be doing 1:1 post copies from Reddit. Not only are the questions copied, all the users are bots and entire comment chains are copied. This is not entirely a bad thing in some edge cases. However, reposting questions in fake(?) tech support communities with fake comments is annoying as hell and a waste of time for people who really want to give genuine advice. alien.top is one of those weird instances, for example. I can easily block the instance on my client, so there is that. If this is actually an issue, it should be blocked, defederated, whatever, at the lemmy.ca instance level. In fairness, I don't have a full grasp of the details of how federation actually works, and personally, I don't really care at the moment. (I'll dig into it later as time permits.) Heck, for all I know, there could be a legitimate connector built to facilitate easier transition for users that are migrating from Reddit to Lemmy. (Is that even a thing?) Cheers. Sorry if I sound stupid. This was just bothering me a bit.
Help! Created new account on lemmy.ca, and can't log in. I created an account, set a password, and now when I try to use them, they don't get me off the login page. If I change either my username or password by a character, it clearly says 'credentials are wrong,' implying that my unmolested credentials are correct - but it won't log me in. I've tried different browsers, turned off uBlock Origin, but nothing helps. Any advice? [@lemmy\_ca\_support](https://lemmy.ca/c/lemmy_ca_support)
Hello! Set up 2FA with authy, logged in on Connect, never a problem logging in on Firefox. Downloaded eternity and I get a bad 2FA error when I try and log in. Firefox takes my user and password now, pops up the 2FA box, but then doesn't load/give an error message. Is my 2FA unsynced?
A lot of my front page is full of kbin magazines that are inundated with spam. As we are all acutely aware, moderation actions on kbin are not replicated across the fediverse, causing lingering spam needing to be cleaned up by other instance moderators and admins. I would just eliminate interactivity until kbin pushes an update that fixes the federation moderation issue, because 80% of the kbin content I see these days is just spam.
I'm getting a little tired of seeing 90% of my feed filled with news from Israel and Gaza... on Voyager, you can filter your feed based on keywords, but it seems that the Lemmy web UI only allows for blocking of instances and users. Am I missing something or can it be done?
I was trying to reply a post at Costco@lemmy.world : https://lemmy.ca/post/1127818 , origins from https://lemmy.world/post/1020538 When I clicked "Reply", the little circle on the button had been spinning and never finished. I refreshed the page, and no surprise, my reply was not posted successfully. Similar issues has been happening to me in the last few months, and now I finally wrote my issue report. Is this issue due to our site or their site? Edit: Closed this issue. See https://lemmy.ca/comment/4133550

No rush, and the delay is on me because I didn't message or tag an admin with the post. I'm requesting /c/CommunityPromo (to get running again) and /c/healthquestions (to close)
I think i've found a bug, but i'm not sure the protocol for where to submit it. The bug: This comment: https://old.lemmy.ca/comment/3118239 - clicking ["load more comments"](https://old.lemmy.ca/post/5368055/#c3118239) shows nothing. - clicking ["view the rest of the comments"](https://old.lemmy.ca/post/5368055/#c3118239) shows comments on post, but without this reply For the regular view: https://lemmy.ca/comment/3118239) - clicking ["show context"](https://lemmy.ca/comment/3117273) shows a sibling comment - clicking ["View all comments"](https://lemmy.ca/post/5368055), shows all comments but either my comment or the sibling comment. - clicking "1 more reply" returns nothing I think the parent comment (and replies to my comment have been deleted. Maybe this is intentional behaviour Actually this might be the bug: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3886
I wanted to create all the canadian telecom communities but then after I made 3 new ones the website wouldn't allow me register more. Is there a weekly limit I should account for? I just want everyone to have a space on here to talk about communication services.
I noticed that kbin.social communities i'm subscribed have broken links in old.lemmy.ca -- not sure if its a config issue or an mlmym issue, but figured i should tell someone example: !gaming@kbin.social link on old.lemmy.ca points to https://old.lemmy.ca/m/gaming@kbin.social , https://old.lemmy.ca/c/gaming@kbin.social works fine
Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, not sure how else to get the attention of the admins. The password reset form for lemmy.ca doesn't work. When you click the "Reset Password" button, the subsequent XHR POST to https://lemmy.ca/api/v3/user/password_reset returns an HTTP 404.
I've been constantly running into issues of stale content and errors fetching post on lemmy.ca the past couple of days. While scrolling on my client (Sync), I keep seeing errors about fetching new posts and have to click retry a few times to fetch more posts. At times I have to retry 6-7 times. Additionally, it seems like I'm seeing posts I've already seen a lot from the past more quickly than I'd expect in "Hot". I tried changing to a different instance and at least the first issue was immediately resolved. Posts were fetched quicker, and I didn't get any more errors while fetching posts. I haven't run into this on alex.lemmy.ca on desktop (yet), so it's possible that it's an API issue. It's also possibly a Sync bug. I suspect there's been a recent performance/federation regression, could one of the admins confirm/deny my suspicions? Totally not a problem if it's not something that can be fixed right away, just wanted to bring it to y'all's attention. Edit: although the screenshot mentions posts being filtered, I don't have enough filters to completely prevent fetching new content
How do I block an entire instance? I'm getting really really sick of blocking dozens of communities from lemmynsfw every single day. It never ends ffs. If I want porn, I'll go looking for porn. It shouldn't be every third post in my feed. Honestly, how is anyone supposed to join Lemmy if they all just get flodded with mountains of porn??? I can't imagine anyone that's not already invested in being here wanting to join. (unless their looking for a pornhub alt I guess...) Not everything NSFW is porn and I'm not looking to remove non-porn so permanently hiding everything tagged NSFW isn't a solution.
It looks pretty slick and seems like it's officially supported on lemmy.world. While we're at it, any chance the Alexandrite UI could be supported too? Thanks! You guys are killing it!
Right now, [robots.txt on lemmy.ca](https://lemmy.ca/robots.txt) is configured this way ``` User-Agent: * Disallow: /login Disallow: /login_reset Disallow: /settings Disallow: /create_community Disallow: /create_post Disallow: /create_private_message Disallow: /inbox Disallow: /setup Disallow: /admin Disallow: /password_change Disallow: /search/ Disallow: /modlog ``` Would it be a good idea privacy-wise to deny GPTBot from scrapping content from the server? ``` User-agent: GPTBot Disallow: / ``` Thanks!
