Locking kids up is definitely going to solve the underlying causes of youth crime!

It seems like Liberal parties only have interest in treating the symptoms, but not the disease. Similar to Panadol, Codral and Vick's etc.

I mean there's a reason why big tech love open source, and why they run smear campaigns against the GPL and AGPL. They don't want collaboration on software, they just want free stuff.

You could develop something very useful just as a hobby and next thing you know you're free engineering resources for Amazon. However, I don't think that is the only reason for mental health breakdown. Redox OS isn't a project of commercial interest at the moment (it may be if something crazy happens with Linux or it beats the BSDs), yet it is the source of this article. There are likely other factors at play. I think the least contributors and users of OSS can do is just be nice to people. I had this crazy argument on here over the wording of the Ventoy BLOB issue where people were trying to say that it's acceptable just to insult people you don't even know who are developing a project in the open for you to use for free.

tl;dr: Volunteers should be treated with absolute respect, I think open source is taken too seriously.

Before you complain that this is an old article, read the post body!

I know this article is a few years old but I just came across it today while searching for a nix lsp. I thought it might be an interesting issue to discuss as I don't think much progress has been made in this space (or maybe there has and I'm living under a rock?).

South Australia’s upper house narrowly rejects ‘Trumpian’ bill to wind back abortion care
  • unionagainstdhmo unionagainstdhmo 3d ago 100%

I'm a Queenslander and I think the LNP will win, cannot decide on the margin. I'm interested to see if the Greens take some inner Brisbane seats off of Labor, to reflect the last federal election. I live in an area that is largely pro-liberal (Gold Coast) so I doubt my electorate will swing in this election, but it will be interesting.

Labor are running attack ads about abortion and Crisafulli failed to say what his stance was on abortion in the latest debate. He also doesn't want to comment on Nuclear.

It's not Queenslanders, it's decades of education to trust the media. Critical thinking is taught at school (only in History electives though) but seldom applied to politics. Abortion isn't the only thing we might lose to "youth crime", we'll lose democracy and clean energy

  • unionagainstdhmo unionagainstdhmo 5d ago 100%

My point exactly, I mean it just seems absurd. The question is: what is gained by wearing a skirt?

I think I know the answer...

  • unionagainstdhmo unionagainstdhmo 5d ago 100%

    Even more wtf:

The concern of modesty was also dismissed by Mr Gordon given that the skirt was required to be long enough to touch the ground when kneeling, and the uniform policy permitted girls to wear shorts underneath their skirts.

Students with lesser dress sense as well. When I started uni I discovered a whole new anxiety I never knew I had, about trying to fit in which bothered me for the first couple of years and stopped me from going to classes, at least now I've given up caring. But the school uniform was good for people with social anxiety like me, if I had this bothering me at school it would be a whole different thing.

At the same time I think the school uniform policy in question here is stupid. I'm not female so I can't relate to this but only imagine. It seems like QLD state schools are allowing the female students to wear pants. I will admit that I haven't read the article but sounds like a pretentious private school

  • unionagainstdhmo unionagainstdhmo 1w ago 100%

I used to self host Gitea, just private repos for university assignments and other personal projects that I was going to open source one day (I have a real problem with finishing things). Then a big storm hit where I live and the internet was out for 2 weeks (I could still use my phone if I stood in the right spot), over that time I was able to work locally but for when I was out and about I couldn't collaborate on anything because I couldn't access it so I begrudgingly moved to GitHub.

At least with GitHub I get very reliable and fast hosting even if everything I write is being fed to AI. Their search is also amazing.

I do plan, however on getting Forjego set up for private stuff again, because some stuff cannot be made public. When the day comes that I finish something and open source it, I'll probably put it on Codeberg. Hopefully my project will be good enough that people are driven to join Codeberg to get involved.

As for my GitHub account, I won't be able to ditch that so I may continue to fix random bugs and typos I come across. I wouldn't want to impose my beliefs on someone else's project

    Laptop woes

I've had this Dell Inspiron 15 7510 for a couple of years now. It has an Intel Core i7-11800H (8C/16T) and an RTX 3050 Mobile (4gb) and 16GB of RAM with a 512GB NVME SSD. It's served me well but it's been really niggling me as of late: - The i7 runs HOT for whatever reason and the fans will go loud because of this, while doing light work (it's doing it right now and I've only got FF open). - The plastic that holds the hinge in place finally snapped so I need to replace the entire top lid. - The battery will only last for 2Hrs (and that's as long as it has ever lasted) - F*ck NVIDIA on Linux Whatever I decide to do I'm going to need to replace that lid. Is it worth trying to sell it (after repairing it) and using that to offset a Framework laptop (which might be cheaper in the long run)? Or should I just keep using it for the next couple of years to get full value from it? I don't need a really powerful laptop anymore since I've bought a Dell (I know right) T7910 second hand which I've upgraded to 64GB of RAM and an RX Vega 56 which is more than enough for any of my gaming and high performance computing needs (I study Computational Science and Physics at university). The main thing that matters is Linux compatibility

Idk they've made it such that when you press the button to open the door the door will not open unless you press the button again when the train is stopped. At least on the N*Rs. Probably a safety feature or something but I don't like it so it's woke.
