How about we make a law saying that employers have to pay job applicants a minimum of an hour's wage just for the time it takes to apply and get an interview?

I was working for 6 days a week, 6 hours a day, for $10 per hour, for over 2 years. Yes, $10 an hour sounds like chump change these days, but this was back in like 2007.

    Still..

    Disclaimer: Not an expert.

Thoughts: I think this would largely depend on multiple factors, such as the overall composition of the planet, a hypothetically almost perfectly spherical core underneath the water, and not having a moon to shift the water tides around.

And even then, solar gravitational tides are a thing, so the water would most likely still move. Also, I'm pretty sure there's no perfectly spherical planet, so I assume there would still be some sort of underwater erosion going on.

    All speculation though.

The last time I had unemployment, it was a lousy $64 per week, and only for 3 months no less. Unemployment is a joke.

Yes, true that. I was more specifically refering to the interview part, being a pure waste of time if you're rejected. And if it was an in-person interview, you've not only wasted time, but very likely have burned gas going there and back.

You know the saying "When you don't have a job, your only job is to get a job"? Yeah, I think that saying is about a load of horse shit. If looking for a job is considered a job itself, then I feel people should get paid for their wasted time.

Or, ya know, don't have a system where someone files 73 job applications only to get basically nowhere.

Like seriously, time is money right? I'm sure most people can relate to wasting time on numerous applications before ever landing a job. If they set that into law, employers will probably be much less likely to reject applicants, and even when they do, you still get paid for your wasted time. Edit: I'm not particularly referring to the application part alone, I'm referring to application + interview = rejection. People should get paid for someone calling you in, only to end up wasting your time. Hell, I could have spent that time better at the sperm bank.

Whether the pyramids were particularly intended as tombs or not, why the hell do dead people get structures that can last thousands of years? While the living people get to live in structures that if we're lucky, might tend to last a hundred years, and that's assuming they don't get blown apart in a hurricane or burned down or something.

Seems a bit back asswards if you ask me.

In the Gregorian Calendar, the year is 365.2425 days.

    https://astronomy.stackexchange.com/questions/21182/to-several-decimal-places-how-many-days-are-in-one-year

The reason is basically that the Earth doesn't spin at an integer rate daily compared to the yearly revolution around the sun. The leap year rules mostly accommodate for this offset.

The 7 days per week thing is purely a human invention, and basically means squat in the bigger mathematical picture of timekeeping. Except that the 7 day week closely aligns with the phases of the moon.

The moon cycle is approximately 29.5 days, which is pretty close to a 28 day, 7 days 4 weeks cycle, as I can only assume some ancient astronomers estimated before they got their numbers right.

    Edited more than once, apologies.

Not for me, but then again I have residual nerve damage in my pinky fingers from a case of meningitis back in 2004.

However, I do still use my left pinky for the left shift key, and my right pinky for the enter key. At least those keys are big enough that the mild numbness doesn't cause me to miss those keys.

Yes, it's a proper (though cheap) mini cube. I added proper dice dots to it for the hell of it. Fully solved, it's a proper die. Also, the red/white/blue pattern here is a proper and easily solvable die-cube. The opposite sides are autumn colors yellow/orange/green. I also discovered a Christmas color theme proper die-cube. I've found it *very* fun and interesting to play with, as obviously it's now a dual puzzle. Thoughts? Edit: Another post from I Made This, showing the autumn colors corner from the fully solved cube.. https://lemmy.world/post/20039223

I dunno, but I drew this out in ink from actual tidal and lunar data at the end of September, in ink, to half-ass program my Casio WS-1300H wristwatch tide predictions. Way easier said than done. The data is very region specific, but I noticed a pattern for the month of October, and assumed that there might be an eclipse sometime during October. Apparently I was right. Today, October 2nd, Easter Island had a solar eclipse. I had no idea that it was 'Inktober' when I wrote and drew all this out. It's just meant to determine timing data. I don't even do things like this in ink, but I felt it necessary this time. If the right column doesn't seem to make much sense initially, I totally understand. I know what numbers I stuck where. Sorry this isn't exactly artwork in any conventional sense, but if anyone wants to better understand my chart, I'll try my best to answer any questions. Mods, I hope this post is okay here, but if not, I understand.

Yes, these already exist, usually without the colors though. I just thought it would be fun to make a dual purpose cube by Dremeling and coloring the dots in myself, while still keeping the colored decals.

The phone models shouldn't matter should they? One is on Android 11 and the other is on 13. I can only get them to connect for about a second, then the connection drops out. And yes, they're right next to each other. And where the hell am I supposed to enter the 'pairing code' thing? No entry box pops up on either device..

For those too young to know, that's the DeLorean DMC-12 from the early 1980s, famously known as the time machine in Back To The Future, and Lara Croft from Tomb Raider as she was rendered in the first version of the game on PC and the original PlayStation. Edited for correct model number, DMC-12
