I agree, but most businesses will probably still stick with whatever Windows version fits their IT environment best. I like running Linux distro's but most companies i would argue just want to offer Windows because (1: People in the company know something about how it works and switching to anything else will be difficult and (2: Windows works pretty well in an AD and Entra ID environment, especially if there is any On-prem Windows or Azure hosted infra involved.

So for individuals i can really see this being a good reason to switch to a popular distro and maybe for specific companies with some knowledge, or if they were to only use SaaS web apps. But most of them, will not change how they operate because of privacy concerns or subscription costs. Windows is not going anywhere, any time soon. But yeah, if you care enough i would recommend running at least a distro in dual boot. Not sure if enough people actually care to make it more common though.

Heel cool! Goed om te zien dat er ook vanuit de overheid wordt onderzocht of zij hier baat bij hebben. Het zou enorm helpen met de betrouwbaarheid van de naam als ook zulke instanties eigen servers gaan beheren

I kinda like looking at Lemmy as a sort of Internet Pub on steroids (Activity Pub). Kind of like a busy street with all kinds of pubs, libraries, bookstores etc. But where those places have something to sell like liquor, coffee or books, Lemmy does not really have anything to sell but just offers a place of conversation. It alsof isn't for everyone, anybody can join but each pub had their own rules.

I see a Lemmy admin like a barkeeper of one of the many pubs around. We sit in this one pub with one owner but we meet a lot of people from other pubs around. And if we like, we can walk across the street and visit somewhere else or even move there permanently. We have options, we as users have more power and especially actual alternatives to go to.

Donating is a thing to help the pubs keep existing. Like tipping the waiter. I'm a big fan of OpenCollective and Patreon for how they allow these small groups of people to take back parts of the internet for themselves!

There is no need to commercialize this space, it's largely for conversation. Here there is no need for the waiter tot eastdrop on conversations, to make the pub all smart or to guilt you into a VIP pass tot enter.

I really hope we can find a way to tip the waiters and barkeepers incidentally like we would in a pub. Like a donation, and maybe also a more prominent place like a tip jar for the instance visible in posts or just the website. I think we can make it work, if we really try.

Yeah the big pubs might come knocking, but its up to each of us to decide if we want to visit any of their places.

I'll go first! I've listened to the podcast "The Psychologists are in" with Jules and Lassiter and i recommend it! It's fun to hear about the experiences of the creator, who said it was largely his father who inspired the bond between Shawn and Henry and especially the part where Shawn has to mention how many hats there are in the diner.

On the episode, it was great! Like, you immediatly see the fun bond between Gus and Shawn, it really doesn't feel like an pilot episode. One thing that is interesting is that we don't really see Shawn coming home with a 'random date' much after this. But i'm sure that was a great call. The episode itself really does an impressive task at establishing most characters right from the get-go and well i'm glad to rewatch this show because of it!

Het model van de Big tech bedrijven gaat zo in tegen alles waar de Fediverse op is bedacht, dat ik vrees dat men dit niet moet willen. Het zijn bedrijven met tig keer de financiële middelen dan de devs van deze Lemmy/Kbin/Mastadon etc. apps. Voor je het weet kopen zij hun invloed en wordt het op instances ook ineens commercieel en gericht op onrealistische groei.

Als je het aan mij vraagt is alles waar iets als Lemmy of Mastadon om draait, is puur het beschikbaar stellen van een deels decentrale infrastructuur waar men op kan converseren met elkaar. Het steunen van de kosten hiervoor zal bij de gebruikers liggen en bepalen in hoeverre het financieel haalbaar blijft.

Deze grote techbedrijven willen daar op de één of andere manier juist wel goed aan gaan verdienen, wat maakt dat zij invloed willen op het ontwikkelde protocol, de functies willen beperken voor anderen, ads/tracking willen introduceren etc. Ik denk dat we het principieel niet moeten willen, niet omdat we de Meta-Google-Apple etc. gebruikers gemeenschap willen uitsluiten, maar de commerciële bedrijven die er onlosmakelijk mee verbonden zijn.

I've decided to only interact with Reddit for work, and so it might happen once a day now. I've started to use the Libredirect Addon to only view Reddit in a limited and tracker free experience: LibreRedirect - Firefox Addon. Before the API announcements i visited like 20 times a day at a minimum.

On my phone i've not been to Reddit since the blackout. It pains me to say, but i've deleted Sync for Reddit from my phone since that day. Great app, terrible admins. No plans to return to my accounts.

Edit: @metaStatic@kbin.social also has a great suggestion btw. Use the cached version from Google or something like Archive.is. There probably are addons for this kind of use by now. Everything to give them as little revenue as possible, if i'm kind of forced to find an answer to some technical question.

Mee eens! Het is essentieel dat er een integrale visie komt waaruit ook beleid richting de boeren wordt uitgelegd, precies om de reden die je aangeeft. Iedereen heeft behoefte aan duidelijkheid.

Er is al vaker het één en ander uitgeschreven, de ene keer wellicht wat ongelukkig gecommuniceerd, waarbij er deadlines/regels worden aangekondigd. Bijvoorbeeld dat je een uitkoopsom kan ontvangen, maar dat het geen onderhandeling wordt die men kan uitspelen door als maar te wachten, kaart met grotere uitstoot gebieden, een app/website om gebieden aan te duiden etc.

Ik heb alleen sterke twijfels of het de overheid lukt om dit op te stellen en de boerensector bereid is om water bij de wijn wil doen. De voorstellen hebben vooralsnog geleid tot erg veel protest vanuit de sector. Daarbij helpt het niet dat de coalitie electoraal op een ongunstige positie verkeerd, dat hoe dan ook niet perse bijdraagt aan een goede afloop.

Ik vermoed dat een bredere visie op ons natuurbeleid niet van de grond komt met de huidige coalitie. Er lijkt namelijk weinig besef te zijn van de noodzaak en de gevolgen bij de achterban van de meeste coalitiepartijen.

Je merkt aan alles dat er vooral rekening gehouden moet worden met één sector en de gevolgen voor hen, in plaats de gevolgen voor ons allemaal. Dit is overigens ook zichtbaar in de EU, waar de natuurwet van Timmermans een stemming al bijna verloor.

Er komt ook geen eind aan de arrogantie van de boerenlobby.

Interessante take! Het klinkt eigenlijk alsof een soort equivalent voor RSS feeds missen, maar dan gericht op forums. In hoeverre activitypub dit kan zijn weet ik niet.

Mocht iemand de technische specificaties wel kennen, dan hoor ik heel graag wat diegene daarvan denkt :)

I really recommend it, works great. Might consider hosting it myself somewhere in the future, but i also like that i can support the creators this way.

Een aantal deelvragen waar ik ook wel benieuwd ben naar jullie antwoorden:

• Is de Reddit Blackout de reden dat je hier bent gaan lurken/commenten?
• Wat vind je tot dusver van de Lemmy ervaring? Wat mist er?
• Denk je dat Lemmy of een andere fediverse site leidt tot de terugkeer van kleinere forums en communities op internet?

De Albert Heijn gaat voor mij sterk boven de Jumbo. De app werkt top en is net zoals de website goed ontworpen. In essentie kan je alles wat echt van belang is met gemak vinden. Verder vind ik de winkel ervaring bij de Appie ook zeer betrouwbaar. In het bijzonder ben ik erg fan van de zelfscan kassa's en de integratie met de Bonuskaart. Het voelt gewoon lekker seamless allemaal.

De Jumbo doet het ook best aardig, maar waar ik de AH echt A grade vind met z'n apps en winkel opzet, neig ik bij Jumbo toch vaak tot een B gevoel. Qua aanbod vind ik de Jumbo nog weleens beter, al hangt dat uiteraard van de vestiging af en de integratie met HEMA is best handig.

Edit: De AH is niet erg goedkoop, daar is de Jumbo hier en daar beter in. Helaas zijn boodschappen in het algemeen erg prijzig geworden.
