Migration of Windows Insiders magazine to Mbin
  • BenjMathis1 BenjMathis1 5mo ago 0%

@Gamers_Mate Oh, 100% Everything around Kbin aside, Ernest had a ton of stuff going on in his personal life that should totally take precedent over this here.

I did see the post about applications for instance-wide moderators, which Kbin definitely needs. But I don't believe any action has been taken past the announcement yet.

But that's really interesting. I just checked and I got a notification for your last comment over on my Mbin account as well. I don't know if maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Mbin account is subscribed to this magazine as well and got looped in as well or what? I may have to look into it and see if either it's just a bug or if I'm doing something wrong lol.

@Gamers_Mate pretty much, yeah. The post is hidden in the magazine and on the spam account's profile, but the post isn't fully deleted. And the spam account isn't affected in any way, even if we directly report it as there's no one here with admin privileges who can actually delete accounts or posts.

@viking there's been no official announcement or anything, but the last change to Kbin's software was about 4 months ago, and there are no admins here who have the ability to block or ban accounts or other instances, so spam can only be hidden not removed from magazines that still have moderators.

  • Hello members of the Microsoft Edge magazine, After much contemplation, I have made the decision to migrate this magazine, in addition to the other magazines I moderate, to Mbin. kbin.social is clearly no longer under active development, and in addition to suffering from several technical problems, kbin.social is also suffering from a huge spam problem. As such, from the perspective of both a user of Kbin and a moderator of several magazines, I believe the best way to move forward is to migrate these magazines over to Mbin. This magazine will be moving over to kbin.run at [@MicrosoftEdge](https://kbin.run/m/MicrosoftEdge) I will continue to check in over here occasionally for the next few weeks, but otherwise from here on out this magazine is considered inactive and will not be fully moderated. Going forward, any new threads or discussions should instead be posted in the new magazine. Of course if you don’t want to move your account to a different instance, you absolutely do not have to! That’s the beauty of federated social media and ActivityPub. All you have to do is subscribe to the new magazine at [@MicrosoftEdge](https://kbin.social/search?q=MicrosoftEdge@kbin.run) and continue on as usual! Thanks for all the discussions and contributions y’all have made in these magazines, and I hope to see you over there!

I'm not sure if they've done that yet. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Microsoft has only backported web-based features from Windows 11 to 10 at this point. The File Explorer redesign kind of seems like a lot to backport to 10, especially with its current end-of-support date unchanged.

  • BenjMathis1 BenjMathis1 1y ago 100%

Oh yeah, absolutely. I think there are plenty of privacy concerns that should be addressed. But I don’t know whether the OCR is processed locally or not. I know the plan for Windows 12 at least is to complete a good amount of the intelligence processing on-device, though that is reliant on specific hardware. And I don’t know how or whether these new features factor into that or not.

While I do enjoy reading a physical book with real pages I can turn. I do prefer the convenience eBooks provide. I use both Kindle and Google Play Books, and its great cause I can just read on my phone whenever I have some time to spare, instead of always having to plan ahead and bring a book with me. And it's also had the added benefit of easier discovery of new reads and authors that I might not have come across otherwise. And I do have a Surface Duo, so I also enjoy how it does emulate that book-like feel when I open it up to read something.

  • What do you do personally to find happiness in your everyday life?
  • BenjMathis1 BenjMathis1 1y ago 100%

There are a few different things I try to do each day to find little moments of happiness here and there. Anything, no matter how small, can have a bigger impact on our mental health than we may initially think. When I have the time, I like to sit down and do a little bit of coding, or do some design work for a new project I want to start (even though there's a high chance I'll move on from it soon 😅). Also getting into a good book is always nice, spending time hiking or just going to a park somewhere, or even a little DIY craft project can be a lot of fun. But when I'm a little busier even little things like music, or journaling, or even a drink I really enjoy can all go a long way in boosting my mood.
