I need some help in writing a short story. Any irish or british history buffs come here

in writing a story with a northern irish protestant/ Ulster scot as the main character in it. its going to take place in 1850s victorian england. Would he have faced any prejudice similar to a catholic irishman? Or would he have been treated completely differently?
