I’ve seen a couple advertising roofing, one advertising a dentistry, one advertising solar panels. Employees probably haven’r gotten a raise in years. Really genius brains in charge of society.

Back in February we paid to get new tires on the car. One of them has been leaky for the last couple of months, something I've continually been putting in the "I'll deal with it later" pile as topping up the air once a week was easier and cheaper than dealing with it. Now the damn tire is flat. The roadside repair guy said that the tire was soft and decayed. I'm 75% sure that a new tire is not supposed to do that so soon. Now I'm wondering if the mechanic put on old tires or if I've been an idiot by not getting the tie fixed in time and the frequent deflation/inflation cycles has ruined the thing. Edit: Fucking hell! The code on the tire says it's from 2007! What the fuck? The damn car went through inspection and everything with that antique on.

Sharing because this is so much fun to watch. They straight up talk about the effect of EVs and public transport on urban noise pollution. They discuss how if people from western countries understood the extent of Chinese advancement, they'd be upset at their own governments. At one point he dispels claims about subsidization and says how they're 10x less than American EV subsidies. They start flashing dozens of articles about American economic protectionism. The reason he's doing this is because he's going into business with a Hybrid EV trucking startup and they're visiting to find parts that can't be found in the US.

Under 98,000 miles, high MPG, ~$9k. Are the parts common and relatively inexpensive as it's a toyota, or does it suffer from mechanics rarely having parts for electric/hybrid cars? How much would it cost to secure my catalytic converter?

Auto industry insiders were stunned when Caresoft, a highly regarded engineering consulting firm, tore down BYD's mass-market EV, the Seagull. Priced around $11,000, the engineers found the Seagull to be well-designed, user friendly, rich with options, and of surprisingly high quality and reliability. The US automakers reacted swiftly, and produced reports insisting that BYD's entrance into US car markets would be met with strong enthusiasm from buyers, and legacy carmakers would be unable to survive. Because of the Seagull's low price point, US tariffs of 25% would be irrelevant: BYD could still make high profits even after the tariffs were paid. Or, BYD could simply place final assembly plants in Mexico and avoid them altogether. Aware of this, the Biden Administration in May jacked the tariffs up to 100%, and announced that Chinese car plants even in tariff treaty countries would be cut off from US markets.

Look I'm as much "fuck cars" as the next guy but riding a motorcycle on a highway is unironically suicidal. I personally know a guy who got in a bad crash on one but miraculously survived; he had a year long recovery period but will have various pain and dysfunction in his body for the rest of his life. I also know some people who did pathology rotations (state medical examiner office, autopsy basically) and the big three categories of bodies coming in were drug overdoses, suicides, and motorcycle crashes. One of the facebook comments links to a *seventh* person who died a few days before these on June 18th: https://www.fox13seattle.com/news/motorcyclist-killed-sr-530-crash.amp
