cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/28549378 > **(MAJOR UPDATE: ONLY 10 HRS REMAIN BEFORE SHUT DOWN AT TIME OF WRITING THIS UPDATE)** > > Hello everyone. For everyone who owns a 3DS, 2DS, or even a Wii U, I'm sharing this out to as many places I can think of, where the awareness can make an impact. Please read if you own a 3DS or Wii U at all, or know anybody who does: > > The SpotPass servers by Nintendo will be shutting down on April 8th, 2024 (4PM PDT). [The SpotPass Archival Project](https://spotpassarchive.github.io/) has been created by the 3DS and Wii U Homebrew modding community, to make sure as much SpotPass data as humanly possible is preserved for the foreseeable future and not lost forever in the coming few days. A huge amount of SpotPass content is essentially free DLC for various games and apps, and they could have been installed without your knowledge. They are not required for most games to play, but without their archival, many games will lose DLC content permanently and some features may no longer work. This archival project can only be made possible by the donations of any individuals owning a 3DS or Wii U (not a donation of money, but rather a donation of SpotPass data stored on your system) > > This data can *only* be collected ***before*** April 8th. Any and all dumps made or sent after the end-date will be *useless* due to the nature of how the archive process works. The dump ***does not*** require you to have a modded or Homebrewed console, and can be done completely unmodded. All you need extra as an unmodded user, is a PC or laptop. There is also zero risk of having your console banned; so rest assured. The guides can be found here: https://spotpassarchive.github.io/#guides. > > *Update: For those who can't recall the difference, what we're archiving here is *Spot*Pass, not *Street*Pass. The difference between the two are: > *StreetPass:* Is a 3DS exclusive *offline* wireless tech which connects your 3DS to other systems and shares various bits of data with random people you pass on the street (in the real world). For example, in the game StreetPass Mii Plaza, the data sent to random passers are your Mii, along with your most recently played game, and your Mii can be played with in the various minigames that StreetPass Mii Plaza offers, and vice versa. > *SpotPass:* Is an *online* wireless tech available on both the 3DS *and* Wii U. Unlike StreetPass, it does not connect to other 3DS systems directly, but rather connects to Nintendo's SpotPass servers online. The data sent could be anything from notifications, to in-game content. This is what we're archiving; *not* *Street*Pass data. Streetpass is not an online service, and thus does not lose content after April 8th; but SpotPass data *will* be lost after the 8th if it's not archived. [Wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpotPass_and_StreetPass).* > > Even if you make the dump *before* April 8, and send it to them afterwards, the dump will be useless regardless, this is why we are frantically trying to spread the word about the project as quickly as possible, as there is a lot of data that is still going to go away permanently regardless of the efforts of this project. The data is stored offline locally on your 3DS and Wii U, so you may be confused as to why you can't just make the dump after the date. For a better explanation, [here is a Discord message from the official Discord server which explains things](https://imgur.com/DBgHgTN). I am not a developer of the project, I'm just someone who is passionate about gaming and technology preservation, and wants to get this out there, and the 3DS was a wonderful part of my late childhood. > > The data is going to be used by the developers to put towards developing a replacement for the SpotPass network, similar to what was done by the Homebrew community who created the [Nintendo Network replacement, dubbed "Pretendo Network"](https://pretendo.network/). > > Even if you don't think you have much data on your system, *please* help dump it towards the archive as soon as possible (within the next couple of days), because you likely have some things you don't know about. The process does not require a modded console at all, and the official site [here](https://spotpassarchive.github.io/), has instructions for both users of modded consoles, and users of unmodded consoles. You can ask for help in the official Discord server of the project [here](https://discord.gg/2ddmRKpt) and people will be very willing to help. > > There are also many many niche, lesser known games, which have absolutely no data archived for them still to this day, so any help archiving them is vital. Thanks for reading, and I ask you to also share this out to as many people as you possibly can. Even if you don't own a 3DS or Wii U, please share this out to anyone you know who owns one, or even those whom you suspect might have one. > > ***Edit: added some extra information, removed some no longer relevant information, fixed some typos, improved some wording slightly.***

The North American "Keywords" system, and Japan & Southeast Asia "Song List" for Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher has been solved. What is Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher? * A pet raising simulation * Breeding simulation * Monster taming * Fantasy * Menu-based raising * Real-time Combat * Roguelike * Single player * Competitive In the Playstation version of Monster Rancher, you could acquire new monsters by *placing Music CDs or other games into your PSX* when the game prompted you to do so. Switch doesn't have an optical drive, obviously, so One of the primary ways to acquire a Monster/Kaiju in UKMR is to use a search for Music/Titles/Artists *(in Japanese and Southeast Asia versions)* or using Keywords *(in North American version).* Depending on the chosen songs or keywords used, you can create a monster born with certain stats or attacks or other adjustments to their parameters. Now that all versions of the game are solved, you can look up what you want to raise, and use the suggestions in-game to get the exact Kaiju you want! *(You still have to play through much of the story to unlock some of the restricted Kaiju, however)* For those interested, the solved lists are posted here: * [North American Keywords List](https://legendcup.com/faq-ukmrcdlist.php) * [Southeast Asia Song List (English)](https://legendcup.com/faq-ukmrcdlist-sea.php) * [Japanese region Song List (Japanese obviously)](https://legendcup.com/faq-ukmrcdlist-jp.php) Hundreds of hours and multiple people's efforts have been put forth to solve these lists, so we hope you enjoy! :)

Due to personal circumstances, I haven't had much time for gaming in the last year. I did have a couple of months in the summer with some free evenings though, so I dumped a bunch of time into Pokemon Violet, and I also completed Super Mario Sunshine, spending several hours getting those last few shines and blue coins after leaving the game at ~85% completed back in 2022. Other than those 2 games, I hadn't really played much of anything on the Switch. My year in review said I put a ton of hours into Pokemon Violet, single-digit hours into F-Zero 99, and less than 1 hour into NES online. No mention of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I was wondering why it didn't count. But then I realized that these year-in-review things are not a nice service or gift to subscribers... they're ADS that they intend people to share with their friends to get their friends to buy more games. (What's a better review than "Your best friend played this game for 200h last year"?) Since SM3DAS isn't available in the shop, it'd be useless to advertise that game. So maybe Nintendo is excluding it from their calculations... Can anyone else confirm or deny this? Did anyone have any delisted games make their year-in-review? Or am I just going to need to spend a ton of time 100%ing Super Mario Galaxy in 2024, and only play 2 other games on my Switch? Lmao

I did wonder how they were going to squeeze a PS4 game onto the Switch. Kudos for doing it but there's been a lot of sacrifices. Shame as I was optimistic for this one.

Original post here: https://lemmy.world/post/1720916 *Yes, different instance account but same user. I link all my instance accounts on my profile page for transparency.* **FINALLY** after months of frustration I have figured it out - and it was with the help of my 8yo (8 year old [child]). 8yo is the 7yo from my first post. A birthday came and went while figuring this mess out. I believe this was a fault of the Microsoft parental controls with Minecraft, and various Minecraft online spin-off games, and NOT Nintendo's. 8yo added 6yo as a **Cross-platform friend** using 6yo's Xbox gamertag on Minecraft on their tablet. Then we all went through the *hand mom your switches so she can type this mess out for you* and they added each other as friends. Problem solved?! Nope. Not quite yet. This was step one. Step two was me going into the Xbox Family app on my phone, and changing the following settings: * Decide if [redacted] can add friends without your approval ✅ Allowed * Choose who [redacted] can communicate with on Xbox Live ✅ Everyone Under Minecraft specifically * See and upload community creations: Decide whose community creations [redacted] can see. Blocking this may affect whether [redacted] can upload their own creations to games. ✅ Everyone * Clubs: This lets [redacted] create, join, and follow clubs for all allowed games, including Minecraft Realms. ✅ Allowed I had already allowed the Minecraft multiplayer option before and that alone didn't work. I also set up everyone as a favorite friend, and they can all play together across Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends on their switches. I feel like this process was way too convoluted. There may be some options I turned on that don't need to be on, but I'm including what I did specifically on the off chance that there's another frustrated parent out there with multiple kids wanting to play local multiplayer on Minecraft on their switches while logged into their Microsoft account. Edit: fixed auto correct fails because words are hard

Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is only on the Nintendo Switch. Learn how to use the Fusion Calculator app on LegendCup, for creating powerfully strong baby Kaiju . With just a few button clicks You can make perfect fusions, and get fusion suggestions, all without needing to know how the fusion mechanics actually work. If you play Monster Rancher 1&2DX Also on the Nintendo Switch, there's other apps for these games as well to help master raising your virual pet monsters :) If you're unfamiliar with the series, it is less of a monster taming/catching game -- and more of a fantasy pet breeding and raising sim. Your monsters have a finite lifespan and you must raise them as best you can with your available budget which you can increase by fighting and winning tournaments. There are also often many locked/hidden monsters that must use story progression to access.

Hi, my switch died and it doesn't turn on anymore. I've been trying to get it fixed by Nintendo but it requires a serial code. Unfortunately the sticker with the serial code on the bottom came off, and didn't realize until now. Is there any other way I can find it? I bought it about 3-4 years ago in december if that helps.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is a Remaster of a Playstation monster raising simulator with the ability to Fuse parents to make new babies with inherited attacks, traits, or stats of the parents. (cross breeding but the parents are consumed in the process). Like a fantasy version of Tecmo's horse racing simulator (Gallop Racer), Monster Rancher will have you budgeting your Money and your creature's lifespan to provide a balanced feeding and drill schedule to raise it's stats, learn new attacks, and fight your way to Master rank. Along the way you'll have story opportunities to discover hidden/locked monsters and raise them as well. The original gimmick in 1999 was being able to visit the "Shrine" in game, and be prompted to replace the game disc with ***Music CDs*** or another game. When prompted again you would reinsert your game and a monster would be generated. The downside of this was it ended up leaving a lot of people excluding from a large portion of the game's available monsters to raise. DX replaces this gimmick with a built in Song List to generate every monster, giving all players complete access to the game's entire library of monsters, along with many new variants (same given breed but with different attributes) not present or possible in the original game. There's a [Discord](https://discord.gg/venPxfG) community for this niche game, along with the last remaining English fan-run resource/guide site [LegendCup.com](https://legendcup.com) entirely dedicated to Monster Rancher since the 90s. Members of the Monster Rancher community use the game's save upload system to run AI v AI tournaments across many different formats and stat caps to include players of all skill levels. The game is cross-region, and cross-platform compatible for these types of tournaments so DX allows you to play on your platform of choice. Hope to see you on the Ranch!

I have my kids' switches all set up in the family group and have the parental control app on my phone (and tablet - in case my husband needs to access it when I'm out of the house). They like playing locally together (on their separate systems), and I want to keep this, but... I don't want them playing with strangers online. Is there a way I can lock it down to where they can only play with their friends and no new people can send them a request (and they can't send an outbound request)? This all got brought back to the forefront when my 7 year old (who is developmentally disabled) was playing with a stranger on Minecraft Dungeons last night. I also tried to change Microsoft family settings and kept getting errors on their end. Website gave me a generic "we're having issues loading this page" error and I couldn't seem to find what I needed in their app. I've tried searching online without luck, and when I try to change settings (semi blindly) I end up taking away their ability to play with each other. ----- TL;DR I'm wanting to limit their online interactions with just each other until they're older/developmentally ready. Looking for a way to block all incoming friend requests or a way to just limit online co-op play with just people on their friends list. Switch and/or Microsoft settings that need to be changed will be appreciated.

Hey Fediverse, what split-screen games do you guys play? There's a ton of "100 best couch-sloth co-op split-screen Nintendo Switch games in 2023 that will make your head explode!" articles/blogspam out there in the Googleverse, but it's more helpful to me if I can get feedback from people who actually play these games. Like, all the Switch gamers out there with similar preferences, what do you guys play? For me and my wife, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the gold standard. I dunno if anything can top it. I think we're looking for a game that is split-screen, easy to pick up, has easy controls, and leans towards the casual gaming side. It doesn't necessarily have to be co-op, so PVE is definitely welcome (think Grand Prix mode in Mario Kart). And I guess I should mention split-screen isn't a requirement either if it's co-op and super fun. I remember liking some of the old Lego Star Wars games back in the day, but over the years my wife's opinion on the franchise has gone from "Meh" to "Ugh" (thanks a lot, TLJ!), so any game with a "long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" setting is not gonna do it. I made a post similar to this several years ago on a platform whose name starts with "R" and ends with "eddit" but didn't get too many good suggestions, so I'm hoping time, a different platform, and an overall friendlier posting environment will aid in my quest to find a Mario Kart equivalent for our household. What do y'all play? I'm all ears.
